Blog Post # 2 Photography & Videography
The question recently came up about using one person to do both photography and videography. What a great question! It certainly deserves a carefully thought out answer. While it may be easier on the budget to do an all-in-one, there are some other things to think about. I asked a trusted industry videographer, knowing he would give a fair and thoughtful answer. This was his response:
“I’ve actually done both photography and video. Did I get the job done? Yes. But was it my best work? No. I’ve always been able to get ‘the shot’. I go through my shot list and make sure I have the ‘do it again for the video’ shots (this always feels a little weird.) But when I try to do both, I often miss the ‘MOMENT’ without even realizing it. Moments can’t be redone. Moments are what make us feel something. The way you look at your loved one for the first time during the first look. The little hand touch you guys do without even noticing. Grandma and Grandpa smiling as they remember when they said ‘I Do’ years ago. These little moments make your big day uniquely yours. And what is a wedding if not a collection of little moments. So, if you’re looking for a wedding video with just shots of your day so you can have it to look back on (nothing wrong with that.) Totally fine to go with a photographer who does both. But, if you want a wedding film that makes you feel something special; something that’s just hard to put into words, I’d recommend going with a videographer whose main focus is just that.” Willie Shaw
